Diaspora Visa Benefits in Indonesia

The Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights has introduced a new visa called the Diaspora Visa. The visa is specially designed to allow former Indonesian citizens to stay in Indonesia for a prolonged period of five or ten years.

The main aim of the new regulation is to strengthen the sense of belonging among those who hold foreign citizenship. The expatriate authorization simplifies the process of applying for a residence permit for Indonesian migrants, making it a more direct route.

Requirements for Diaspora Visa in Indonesia

Individuals who were once citizens of Indonesia and are interested in applying for the diaspora visa must adhere to the following set of requirements:

  • Passport with a minimum validity of 12 (twelve) months.
  • Proof of living expenses.
  • Colored passport photo.
  • Commitment statement, mandatory within 90 (ninety) days of arrival, can be in the form of purchasing Indonesian government bonds, shares/mutual funds in public companies in Indonesia, or savings/deposits amounting to US$35,000.
  • Documents proving that the individual was once a citizen of Indonesia, including but not limited to identification card, birth certificate, family card, Republic of Indonesia passport, diploma, or certificate.
